Have your say on first ever Nythe Parish Budget consultation!

Following the successful three year campaign for Nythe to be recognised as its own distinct community, the new Parish of Nythe will be formed in May 2015. It will be a similar size to Chiseldon, bigger than Wanborough but smaller than Covingham.

The creation of the Nythe {Parish Council was a Conservative led idea supported by residents but opposed by Labour. This was never a party political issue but about what is best for the residents of Nythe.

Your three Swindon Borough Councillors, Kevin Parry, Richard Hurley and I, have been asked to run a “Shadow Nythe Parish” to help set the first local parish budget in February 2015. After the first election for independent parish councillors, the Parish will run itself so we want to ensure it is on a good footing from the start.

Our pledge during the campaign was to ensure the area has the TLC that it urgently needs, and achieve a cut in your Council Tax bills of £50 per household. We know this is possible and we want to involve as many residents as possible to improve the area.

For example, the new Nythe Parish could recruit a caretaker/groundsman to help with general maintenance and repairs, ensure the grass is cut, work with your Borough

Councillors on regular inspection of notice boards, bus shelters, footpaths and work with residents on improving our streets.

Do you think this is a good idea?

Should the Parish find a local company and agree a contract for them to undertake similar tasks?

Or perhaps Nythe Parish shouldn’t get involved and leave it to Swindon Borough Council?

Kevin, Richard and I think there is merit in a dedicated caretaker but we want to hear your views before any decision is taken on the first budget for Nythe Parish.
