Over 300 residents have taken part in our Solar Sound Barrier survey to help gauge local support for the idea, and help inform the Council decisions on the A419 project.

The average score for how effective the current Wooden Fence installed by the Highways Agency in 2009 was a low 2.6 out of 10!

The other key results were the daily disruption due to the A419 noise was 6.3/10, affecting their sleep was and 4.6/10 for and 7/10 for spoiling the enjoyment of their garden.

36% of people who replied indicated they might be prepared to invest an average of £200 each in the project if it had a 4% return.

100% of residents said the Solar Sound Barrier was a good idea and 92% said the Council should make it happen.

Cllr Dale Heenan, “I will be presenting these positive findings to the Council Cabinet when it deliberates on whether to proceed with the A419 Solar Sound Barrier. The residents own feedback scoring 2/10 for effectiveness from the Highways Agency wooden fencing supports the empirical residents of the Swindon Council Task group who have investigated the Solar Sound Barrier concept

The willingness of one third of local residents being prepared to invest up to £1000 of their own money if there is a commercial return really does lend weight to our attempts to setup a Future Energy Co-operative in Swindon.

There is lot more work still needed on the detail, but my survey results are encouraging with have residents support”
