Name the 6 Labour Councillors who have helped spend £2000 on media training

A resident who lives in Upper Stratton submitted a Freedom of Information request to Swindon Borough Council on “details of all media training and conferences in the last three years, how much it cost and which Councillors attended.”, and passed the details on.

Nine Swindon Borough Councillors participated in media training in 2012 at a cost of £2000, six were Labour and three Conservative.

Stratton Resident, “I was reading a news website and found a report about thousands of pounds being spent on media training while lots of cuts are being made. I wondered what the situation was in Swindon and really wasn’t surprised to see Labour Councillors being hypocritical when it comes to spending tax payers money.

Cllr Dale Heenan, “It is unusual to hear from a resident on this kind of issue but when I saw the FOI response I couldn’t help by chuckle. Councillors need proper training but at £1000 a time you have to wonder if this media training is really the best value for money. The Conservatives have put forward budgets to freeze Council Tax for four years in a row, with Labour voting against each time. The best idea they can come up with to save money is to stop providing water to residents at Council meetings.

Labour Councillors always try to jump on bandwagons and take the moral high ground, so it is amusing to see 6 of the 9 Councillors to have participated in £2000 of media training are Labour.”
