Conservative Council pledges £300,000 for Flood prevention and drainage works
Swindon Conservative Councillors on Swindon Borough Council are proposing £300,000 for Flood prevention and drainage works in the 2014/15 Council budget.
Cllr Dale Heenan “There are practical steps which can be taken along the River Cole, to culverts and changes to the Flood Storage Area which will significantly reduce the risk of flooding but they require money. The £300,000 is an important statement of our intent for residents and show the Environment Agency and residents we are serious.
We saw during the Christmas and New year Storms that the Environment Agency were clearing debris from the Dorcan Brook Flood Storage Area every day avoid flooding occurring.“
Kevin Parry “The Government is capping Flood Insurance Premium costs based on Council Tax Band, and the hard working Conservative Councillors like Cllr Dale Heenan and Cllr Richard Hurley have done everything possible to help residents since the 2007 floods. £300,000 is going to make a big difference, and I look forward to working with them to knock heads together at the Environment Agency”
