Action to protect local jobs, while Labour risk 400 jobs at Patheon

Swindon Borough Council and Forward Swindon are working with Patheon and with businesses across Swindon to retain existing jobs and create new jobs for local people. They are working to protect the 400 jobs at the Patheon site in  Covingham, and helped to create 500 apprenticeships across the town.

Kevin Parry, “The Council can help create the environment where business wants to invest money in Swindon which will create new jobs, and most importantly, protect existing jobs. It is shocking that Labour has proposed to sack the staff involved in working with business like Patheon to save local jobs. I work at Honda and have seen first hand how crucial this local support can be for local workers. As your Local Councillor, I will always work hard to protect local jobs, encourage business to create new jobs and put the interests of residents before party politics.

Dale Heenan, “Councillors are elected to represent local residents and do their best for their local areas. This covers day to day casework but also what happens to our libraries, leisure facilities, ensuring our roads are repaired and deciding the Council Tax residents pay. A responsible Council can protect local services, deliver a fair and affordable Council and think through its decisions to avoid unintended consequences that risk the local economy.

It is astonishing that Swindon Labour have proposed to sack the very people working with businesses like Patheon in Covingham to protect 400 jobs. The Labour Councillor for Covingham and Dorcan Julian Price championed this idea and is shows he is only interested in putting party politics before local residents”
