Councillor pay freeze for 4th year, after Swindon Labour secretly ask Tories to increase!
For the fourth year in a row, Councillors in Swindon will have voted for a pay freeze after Swindon Conservatives proposed to reject independent panels recommendation to increase. Sadly, the Labour party decided to play the obvious party political games by secretly asking the Conservatives to increase Councillor pay like the independent panel recommended. The Conservatives refused and agreed with the Liberal Democrats to go for a freeze. This freeze was agreed by all the political parties Conservatives, Liberal Democrats and Labour, yet at the 11th hour earlier today Labour change their mind once again.
Dale Heenan, “Every person who is a Councillor receives an allowance of £7800 and this has income tax and national insurance deducted from it. Tonight’s Council vote means that this figure will have been frozen for four years in a row. No-one gets into politics for the money but to help local residents and improve their local area.
The vote to freeze in Swindon contrasts to Wiltshire Council where every Councillor already receives £12,289 voted for an increase, and the Leader of Wiltshire Council received a 22% increase!
All politicians are on a hiding for nothing and this game playing damages all of us”
