Extra Eastern Villages drop in meeting arranged for Covingham residents
An extra Consultation event about the future Eastern Villages development has been scheduled in Covingham for Monday 9th September. This drop in session will be held at Covingham School from 6pm, and have Council Officers from Highways, Masterplanning and Design present.
Dale Heenan, “The Eastern Villages represent 6000 homes being built within 5 new villages to the east of the A419, a new district centre with Sainsburys, new offices and commercial space for business and jobs along with new schools and leisure facilities.
The Council has been consulting on a draft plan for the future Eastern Villages development for 8 weeks, 2 weeks longer than normal to ensure people on summer holiday also have the same opportunity to comment. There have already been three well attended public drop in meetings and exhibitions at South Marston, Coleview and Wanborough and there will now be an extra exhibition held in Covingham.
There is cross political party support for the Councils approach to housing development in Swindon and the approach to tacking development to the East of the A419. A cross party Committee of Councillors voted to support the draft plan for consultation. There still remain some challenges to solve but this document sets out clearly and explicitly what is involved, and by being upfront with developers they know exactly what they need to do.
I live in Coleview and have been a Councillor for Lower Coleview, Covingham and Nythe for 9 years and half of Liden since last May so I know first hand the importance of getting this plan right. This development has been on the cards for 30 years, and as the Cabinet member for Strategic Planning at Swindon Borough Council I am determined that when it does happen that Swindon has a high quality development which has the right infrastructure for our roads and reduces the risk of flooding to existing communities.”
Alls Comments must be sent into the Council by the 16th September. More details can be found at http://www.swindon.gov.uk/ep/ep-planning/forwardplaning/ep-planning-localdev/Documents/Eastern%20Villages%20SPD.pdf
