Coleview bus service saved – atleast until end of October!
Cllr Dale Heenan “Concerned local residents will be pleased to hear that the Bus service through Coleview is safe for the moment. The off peak Coleview 21 bus service was secured by Cllr Richard Hurley and I last year with a £15,000 annual subsidy from Swindon Borough Council.
I live in Coleview, and I have actively spoken up for Coleview residents so a bus service is retained. This lobbying effort led to a four month extension of the 21 bus service, which has now been increased to six months.
At a recent Cabinet meeting which discussed the Council’s Bus Strategy, I spoke up for Coleview and reiterated that some services do need financial help to keep running. The Cabinet Member for Transport, Cllr Keith Williams, agreed and said that he would ask Council Officers to keep the 21 bus service running without any changes until the Bus Strategy starts in November.
I have now received confirmation from the Highways Department that the 21 Bus Service contract has been extended by six months, and a bus service will be maintained!
The next bus service might be a little different and I would like to see an early start time, but Cllr Richard Hurley and I will keep up the lobbying pressure until a 3 year agreement is in place. We should know its future in a few short weeks”
