Coleview bus service extended!

Cllr Dale Heenan, “Richard Hurley and I led a Council debate last January on bus services. We spoke up for local residents in Coleview, and we secured a 12 month contract for an offpeak Coleview to Town Centre bus service with a £15,000 subsidy from the Council..

We are pleased to let local residents know that a four month extension has been agreed between Swindon Borough Council and Thamesdown Transport so the service will continue until atleast September! It is crucial residents use the number 21 bus service because it is still losing money and just 25% of passengers are from Coleview. 75% of passengers are from Penhill and there needs to be an increase in passengers from Coleview to ensure we can justify keeping the service running which is what we would really like to see happen.

During the bus debate last year every Labour Councillor simply sat silently watching us the whole time and did not speak up once. While the Cabinet Member for Transport, Cllr Keith Williams, has confirmed this week that the Labour Councillor Julian Price has not lobbied him to keep the service running. In contrast Labour Councillor Joe Tray has for Penhill residents, and Councillor Richard Hurley and myself have in support of Coleview residents. I wonder how long it will be until there is a bus petition to “save the 21 bus service” and Labour try to claim credit for this good positive action”

While Thamesdown Transport is owned by Swindon Borough Council, it is Thamesdown Transport who make all operational and commercial decisions about routes. The Council has nominated Councillors to act as non-executive directors and this is cross party.
