27/05/09 – EDA Consultation on Wednesday 10th June at St Paul’s Church
Cllr Dale Heenan “Last week I was reappointed as Chairman of the Planning Committee, and my 3rd year will be dominated by the Eastern Development Area.
The villages like South Marston will have their own concerns, but Coleview, Covingham and Nythe will also feel the impact of the 12,000 houses which the Government and Regional Assembly insist the area to the East should have.
I have asked Planning Officers to setup an extra consultation meeting about the EDA on Wednesday 10th June. The meeting will be held at Covingham Library in St Paul’s Church between 4pm to 6pm.
The Council is being proactive in how it approaches this issue and is consulting residents on a very thorough Planning Document. It’s aim is to control the the development and considers everything from the Houses and Transport links through to Flood risks, Jobs and new Schools and a Leisure centre. If the Council waits until Developers start submitting planning applications in October, it will be too late and the developers will want to dictate terms.
I have serious concerns about the impact of the EDA. I might be the Planning Committee Chairman but I’m also a Covingham resident and will be submitting my own views. The crucial problems for me are the transport and flooding implications. The last thing anyone wants is for either Covingham Drive or Kingfisher Road to become ratruns into the town centre. The EDA is also the only opportunity we have to sort out our existing flooding problems, not to aggravate them.
Residents should submit their views by the 15th June. Every response is read by Officers and will be taken into account by the Planning Committee.
