19/04/09 – Council reduces time to pay invoices to 10 days!

Cllr Dale Heenan “I am pleased to say that Swindon Borough Council has introduced a target time for paying invoices in just
10 days, instead of 30 days!

By paying our bills promptly, this will be a big relief to local businesses who supply the Council, help their cash flow and allow them to continue paying their staff.

Last week I asked Finance officers what help the Council was giving to
small and medium sized businesses during the recession. My questions
included is SBC paying it’s invoices from small and medium businesses
on time within our 30 day target, and can we reduce this time?
For instance, St Edmundsbury Borough Council has pledged to reduce the
time it takes to pay invoices from 30 days to 20 days.

Cutting our payment target time by 2/3rds is a strong statement of intent from Swindon Borough Council. This is a good start and I will continue to question Officers to
ensure the Council is doing everything it can to help local residents,
and local busineses during the recession.”
