29/1/07 – Policing in Covingham and Nythe
The Neighbourhood Policing Team has finally been established to cover Covingham and Nythe. The first meeting has been held in Nythe Primary School with Cllr Dale Heenan, 2 Police Officers, and a number of residents attending.
Cllr Dale Heenan, 12 months ago the area was covered by just 2 Officers but now we have 5 and a 6th is being recruited. This is real progress and something residents can definitely welcome. The new Sergeant has shaken up the teams and the future looks promising.
We are organising monthly meeting between the police, residents and business owners to tackle the issues facing the ward. These meetings are not talking shops, but are there to deliver action and for residents to hear results. Communication and feedback is very important. For too long residents have felt their complaints are falling into a black hole and ignored.
Police have agreed for the next meeting to include:
How to tackle youths causing problems after being displaced from Parks and Walcot.
The Traffic division to discuss the use of Officers spending time with a speed gun on the Drive in Nythe, and Merlin Way
The use of Mosquito sonic deterrent device, like the one already installed in Covingham Square.
