22/07/07 – Dale Completes 1.5 mile Charity Swim!
Earlier today I completed the 1.5mile Pier 2 Pier Charity Swim in Bournemouth, on behalf of the British Heart Foundation. The water was cold enough to take your breath away as you entered, but within a couple of minutes all you were concentrating on was trying to swim against the waves!
The atmosphere was great and with 1000 participants, everyone was in high spirits. I stayed towards the rear of the middle pack of Swimmers throughout and at times struggled.
1.5 miles is the equivalent of 90 lengths of the Link Centre Swimming pool!
It was necessary to swim past the surf and where the waves started to swell because the waves constantly pushed swimmers back towards the beach. With it being too deep to stand, there was nowhere to rest and was extremely difficult. The only way I finished was to grit my teeth and keep going and not give up.
I finished the 1.5 mile swim between Bournemouth Pier and Boscombe Pier in 1hr 2 minutes and was completely exhausted!
