29th July 2006 – Waste Transit Site

Cllr Glenn Smith

There has been an outline planning application (S/06/1621) submitted for a waste transit site at Wick Lane, off Wanborough Road. See the planning application details online here.

It would appear (although I need to confirm this) that they wish to accept the following waste items, sort them and then sell them on to be recycled.

  • Green waste (grass etc)
  • Paper/card
  • Metals
  • Soil
  • Aggregates
  • Clothes/Shoes
  • Glass
  • Wood

This would result in around 10 collections of the sorted material per week. However it is not clear the traffic impact of the site for drop-offs.

I shall be talking with the planning department this week about the application to find out more information. I am particulary interested in finding out the impacts of,

  • Noise
  • Smells
  • Traffic (both drop offs and collections)
  • Hours of Operations
  • Types of Waste

It is important to stress this is an outline application and therefore is akin to an expression of interest. A full application would have to follow should they wish to proceed.

The following image taken from Google Maps, shows the site highlighted in red from an ariel perspective.
